The scene where three seamstresses, wishing for the bride's happiness, tangle her hair while painstakingly sewing the hem of the wedding dress is particularly memorable. The scene where a male reporter who has no interest in fashion is overjoyed to see the seamstresses is the perfect moment to understand the wonder of slow fashion.
At the same time, the film also offers a glimpse into the social situation in postwar Paris, including homophobia, discrimination against women, and men who had lost their confidence due to the war. The negative aspects that make us want to look away are the source of creativity, and the process in which all of these are incorporated into the brand's message and designs is also fascinating.
In particular, the main character's line in the story is, "Even if you're not interested in fashion, the clothes you wear are filled with your own personal preferences." It's a great line, reminding us that fashion isn't just for people who like clothes, but is open to everyone.
In one scene, citizens riot at a model wearing a bright red collection dress, saying, "Who does haute couture mean when we can't even get bread to eat tomorrow?" Rather than cowering, the owner becomes even more ambitious, saying, "You can't make the boldest and best things out of fear."
